Thalia Knight

Head of Library and Information Services

The Royal College of Surgeons of England

Biography

Since joining The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998, Thalia has been developing digital surgical library as a strategy to serve library users spread throughout the UK and abroad. She is currently involved in managing an NPfIT funded project to build a web based Specialist Library for Surgery, Theatres and Anaesthesia which will be part of the National Library for Health . She manages the development of a Learning Resources Section for the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Project. The other major aspect of Thalia's responsibilities involves the care of the College's nationally and internationally important historical collections – both print and archives. She has been successful in obtaining funding support from the Research Resources in Medical History grant scheme run by The Wellcome Trust which has enabled cataloguing and conservation projects. Additional fundraising support has enabled the purchase of a digital book scanner and the development of the library management system.
