Abstract
Half
of the people in the UK are volunteers. 11 million more are waiting
to be asked to get involved in their communities. Some libraries
offer exciting and fun opportunities for volunteers, but what are
the barriers stopping more from happening? Volunteers enhance library
services and will increasingly do so in the future. This presentation
explores both the potential and challenges of community engagement,
from service delivery level to management, including a look at the
added value volunteers already bring to other sectors and services.
