Biography     

In his career David has traversed the country in pursuit of career advancement working in Northampton, Llanelli, Westminster, Hackney, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire and now Southampton.  The library service in Southampton is the first, so far as is known, to seek to apply lean managment techniques to library operations.

Abstract: Setting up partnerships in Southampton

During 2006 Southampton has been developing management partnerships with local communities in three branch libraries.  The partnerships will take decisions regarding the operation and direction of local services and seek to widen participation.  Drawing on the lessons learnt in Southampton the workshop will develop an understanding of the barriers to taking engagement to another level and some shared thinking on how to overcome them.
