Biography

John Godper has worked all his professional life in serving for blind people.  In 1987 he set up "Share The Vision" as a vehicle to enable the voluntary and statutory sector organisations involved in library services to blind people to come together and work together more effectively.  This has lead to such things as the Reveal database of accessible books.

John is a passionate supporter of blind people's right to read the same books, at the same time and at the same price as sighted people and has just introduced a range of daisy audio books which blind people can buy for the equivalent of the print paperback cover price.

He is now Head of Products & Publications at RNIB, designing, developing and selling a wide range of products, magazines and books both in the UK and around the world.

Abstract: We would like the same - nothing more, nothing less

Drawing from their own experiences Pete and John will explore issues facing blind and partially sighted readers.  They will look at how the public and voluntary sectors can work together more effectively to improve library services for blind and partially sighted people and a comparison will be made to library services outside the UK.
