Biography
Pete
Osborne has a life long love of reading which he indulged while
reading English and Phoenetics at Leeds University, but is regularly
frustrated by not being able to access books due to his visual impairment.
He currently manages RNIB's library and production services, delivering
2.5 million books to over 40,000 customers. He has played
a leading role in challenging the inaccessibility of information
for blind people. "Imagine a world where visiting a book
shop, newsagent or library is at best frustrating and distressing.
That is the reality for many blind people and a reality I want to
change."
Abstract:
We want the same - nothing more, nothing less
Drawing from their own experiences
Pete and John will explore issues facing blind and partially sighted
readers. They will look at how the public and voluntary sectors
can work together more effectively to improve library services for
blind and partially sighted people and a comparison will be made
to library services outside the UK.
