Biography As Programme Manager for Framework for the Future at the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), Sarah is involved in developing and implementing the Government's strategic plan for public libraries . She lead s on a number of programmes to encourage community engagement, and worked closely with the Big Lottery Fund in developing the Community Libraries P rogramme . She also lead on various other Framework programmes, including Leading Modern Public Libraries, and work to develop and improve services to young people, adult learners and people with disabilities .

 

Sarah has a particular interest in cultural change within library services, including the impact on workforce development and on the relationship between services and the communities they serve.

 

Sarah has been with MLA about four years and was previously a member of the Senior Management Team at Westminster Libraries , responsible for services to c hildren, l ifelong l earning and r eader d evelopment , and leading on partnership working and external funding . P rior to that , she worked for many years in the London Borough of Hillingdon .  

Abstract: Community Engagement:  Implementing the Community Libraries Programme

The workshop will cover:

  • the policy drivers for community engagement in public libraries
  • the potential of the Big Lottery Fund's Community Libraries Programme as a catalyst for change
