The
after dinner speaker and presenter of the Awards will be Gervase
Phinn, who is widely known as a lively and entertaining speaker.
In 2004 he was honoured to receive “The Speaker of the Year Award”
from the Association of Speakers' Clubs.
The
Times Educational Supplement - “Gervase Phinn is one of the most
accomplished public speakers of any kind. A natural storyteller,
he combines the timing of the professional comedian with palpable
warmth and the ability to deliver a message that is just more than
just a series of jokes."
Professor
Phinn taught in a range of schools for fourteen years before becoming
an education adviser and school inspector. He is now a freelance
lecturer, broadcaster and writer.
He
has lectured widely and has published many articles on the use of
English in education, plus collections of his own plays and stories
and has contributed to several anthologies.
He
is probably best known for his best-selling autobiographical novels:
The Other Side of the Dales, Over Hill and Dale and Head
Over Heels in the Dales.
