Biography

Alan Clarke

Alan Clarke took up the position of Chief Executive at One NorthEast on 1 st June 2003.  

 

He has been Chief Executive of Northumberland County Council since February 2000 following five years as Assistant Chief Executive of Sunderland City Council.   He has worked in local government in the North East for almost 30 years, including 16 years at Newcastle City Council.

 

With an academic background in Economics and Town Planning he spent his early career in Planning and Economic Development.   Since then he has gained substantial experience of corporate management, strategic planning, partnership working, regeneration, development and marketing.   Recently he has spent a considerable amount of time working on the Modernisation Agenda and is fully committed to the continuous improvement of services to the public.   Throughout his career Alan has placed substantial emphasis on people development and the management of cultural change.   The County Council's improvement agenda was recently recognised by the Audit Commission who placed Northumberland in the “good” category following the Comprehensive Performance Assessment.

 

Mr Clarke is married with three children.   His interests include football (playing five-a-side when fit), running (again when fit), cycling and walking.   He also supports Liverpool Football Club, being a Liverpudlian by birth.
