YLG News
Yorkshire and the Humber YLG Branch Report – July 2003Another extremely successful Day School was held. All Aboard focused on children with special needs and was attended by over 30 delegates. A new venue was used for the first time – Cliffe House at Huddersfield, and proved to be extremely popular with delegates, organisers and speakers. We will return! Out next day school (November) will be in partnership with YMLAC and will focus on joint projects between libraries, museums and archives for children and young people. We are looking at the National Railway Museum at York as a potential venue – YMLAC may be willing to sponsor the cost of this. Day Schools in York always seem to attract 10-20% delegates than most other venues – whether this is to do with the proximity of Yorkshire’s best shopping, or the world famous Betty’s Tea Rooms is a matter of some debate. At the last YHYLG committee meeting, there was considerable discussion of the future of From Poets to Puppeteers, our guide to tried and tested children’s authors, entertainers, poets and, er, puppeteers. This is now in it’s fourth edition and is very popular with schools and libraries throughout the Yorkshire and Humber region and beyond. It was agreed that we need to investigate new formats for the next edition, and work will progress on this over the next few months. Colin Brabazon |
