NEBA logoNorth East Book Award 2003 Shortlist

We are delighted to announce this year’s NEBA shortlist.

The Award aims to celebrate reading and develop a “books are cool” culture in schools amoung 14+ readers.

Shortlist 2003:

Blinded by the Light Sherry Ashworth

Starseeker Tim Bowler

Remembrance Theresa Breslin

Caught in the Crossfire Alan Gibbons

Mortal Engines Philip Reeve

Transplant Malcolm Rose

It’s an eclectic collection of love and loss, cults, cloning and conflict and cities torn apart by race and by consumerism, which we believe highlights the issues which concern young people today, and represents the very best books written for teenagers this year.

Some 20+ schools from all over the North East will make it the biggest and best year yet – reading and reviewing the shortlisted titles, exchanging their views by email and in virtual reading rooms, designing a NEBA website and developing a promotional magazine: demonstrating perfectly the synergy of books and ICT.
Reading began in October and the winner will be announced in January 2004 at a party in Waterstones, Newcastle, for all the authors and student judges.
