Who Wants to be a Millionaire? – Harry Potter Quiz

The competitors with their prizes

On Saturday 21st June at 9.30 in the morning, to celebrate the publication of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, Brierley Hill Library held a Harry Potter quiz based on the format of “Who wants to be a Millionaire?”.

Features included 50/50 and “Ask the Audience”. The questions were taken from the first four Harry Potter titles and became progressively more difficult as contestants moved through the list.

A qualifying question had been set and the answers were sent to Brierley Hill Library for the selection of the ten contestants. Five girls and five boys were invited to the library to take part in the quiz and each could bring with them two guests to form the audience.

The youngest contestant was only 7 years old and the oldest was 14.
The schools that they attend include Wolverhampton Girls High School, Hagley Middle School, Oldswinford, Holly Hall, Peter’s Hill, Brierley Hill Primary, St. Joseph’s Primary and Fairhaven School.

All the contestants answered at least five questions correctly and they all won a chocolate Dragon’s Egg. Four contestants answered ten or more questions correctly and received a Harry Potter mug.

The knowledge of the audience was called on several times.

The winner, Robyn Gillard aged 12 from Wolverhampton Girls High School, answered all 15 questions correctly, without using any lifelines, gained a million marks and won the first prize. She was presented with her prize, a copy of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” which had been generously donated by Waterstones Bookshop of Merry Hill, by Mrs Liz Woodcock, Assistant Head of Library Services at Dudley Borough Council.

All the contestants said how much they had enjoyed the morning, particularly after they had finished answering their questions. After refreshing themselves with orange squash and cookies the unsuccessful contestants went off to buy their own copies of the book.
More than forty copies of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” by J. K. Rowling are in stock in Dudley’s libraries and there is a waiting list of more than ninety customers to read them.
