It is estimated that one in five people in the UK has a criminal record so it really makes sense to help them back into mainstream society through employment. In fact, finding a job for an ex-offender is the most effective way to take away the need to re-offend. Currently one in three released prisoners re-offends within 48 hours. It is not surprising that employers can be extremely reluctant to offer a job to a worker with a criminal record though fewer than 10% of offences are connected to violence. But as nearly 85% of employers report they are experiencing difficulties in recruiting staff it would make sense to provide employment for a higher number of ex-offenders who currently find it hard to gain re-entry into employment.
