Maternity rights in the UK currently include: the right to time off for ante-natal care; the right not to be dismissed for any reason connected with pregnancy or childbirth; health and safety protection; the right to maternity leave; and the right to maternity pay. The Work and Families Act 2006 introduced regulations (from 1 October 2006) these entitle women to take 1 years maternity leave regardless of how long they have worked for a company.
