Page summary
Performance appraisal is a process whereby line managers and employees regularly discuss how individual performance objectives are being met. Without a structured appraisal system there will be little chance of ensuring that decisions and judgements made are legal, fair and accurate. In particular line managers need to communicate to their staff how their achievements contribute to the organisation’s strategic objectives.
