CILIP advances the interests of its members by working through a variety of international organisations, which keeps CILIP in touch with global developments.
- IFLA - The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
- CILIP is a very active member of EBLIDA (The European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations).
- Following a successful campaign, the UK National Commission for UNESCO was formally re-established by the Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for International Development, on 31st March 2004. The National Commission has five committees covering UNESCO's major programme areas. CILIP has obtained representation on two committees.
- Ayub Khan is CILIP's representative on the Culture Committee of the UK National Commission for UNESCO.
- Mike Heaney is CILIP's representative on the Communications and Information Committee.
