CILIP's Managing Change in the e-Enabled Public Library will address fundamental issues using a combination of authoritative keynote speakers and practical case studies from public libraries.

The executive briefing will start by hearing an overview of the vision for strategic change that is contained in the National Action Plan for Framework for the Future, which will be presented by Chris Batt.  This will provide the backdrop for the more detailed discussions throughout the day.

Mark Baxter and Steve Taylor, will then take an initial look at the change management framework, and highlight how managers should be preparing for change and developing a business case. They will draw on extensive experience of advising on change management issues and their practical experiences of working with public libraries.

Two Case Studies will then provide an insight into the practical experiences of tackling change and implementing the introduction of a new RFID system. Marguerite Gracey will detail her experiences in managing a strategic change programme at Northumberland Libraries and Diana Edmonds will describe how Haringey Libraries introduced RFID.

After lunch Karen Reece from Talis will provide a supplier's perspective on the issues involved in making significant changes to library systems and the implications for all those involved, and she will be followed by a third Case Study presented by Nigel Ward on the experiences of Solihull Libraries and Community Services in managing change.

Finally Mark Baxter and Steve Taylor will draw together the day's presentations with a look at how benefits can be realised by introducing change and the value of continuous improvement programmes.

Throughout the day there will be opportunities to question speakers and debate the issues with other delegates both formally in Discussion Sessions and the final Open Forum , and also informally in the refreshment breaks and during lunch.
