Why attend?

This workshop has been specially prepared for UK librarians by Alex Cohen of Aaron Cohen Associates, and will be supported by Diana Edmonds, Head of Libraries at Haringey Council and presented jointly with CILIP.  It will ensure delegates share best practice so they can adapt a library building plan.

Research on top technology trends for libraries, acquired over many years, will be used to ensure delegates understand basic facility requirements for services, collections, staff and user-centred spaces.

The workshop will help update architectural planning concerns including: collections, staff and user services.  During the day, planning exercises will help attendees identify existing options and future service needs.  Key to the workshop is the Visual Scan, which will involve a library tour and build on the morning programme.  The outcomes will then be analysed and discussed with the delegates.

Today's adaptive challenge concerns digital content for users and staff.   The convergences of information technologies allow libraries to untie communication devices and networks.  It gives them the ability to move multimedia content and become collaborative workplaces.  Devices and networks include e-mail, mobile communications devices (e.g. smart phones), iPods and web pages.

Organised by CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.
