The John Campbell Trust

The John Campbell Trust was established as an independent charitable trust through the bequest of the late Dr John Campbell, an early member of the Institute of Information Scientists. It is administered by a body of Trustees under the chairmanship of Adrienne Muir. Its purpose is to further the education and development of information professionals through grants, scholarships, research or travel awards, and thereby to enhance the knowledge and experience of the information community as a whole.

Grants and Bursaries

The Trust currently offers three types of award:

The John Campbell Scholarship

is intended to help support a full-time student on a postgraduate programme, taught or research, in a UK higher education institution.

The John Campbell Conference/Travel Bursary

is intended to help an information professional to attend a conference or undertake a programme of travel.

The John Campbell Dissertation Bursary

is intended to help a student on a taught course (undergraduate or postgraduate) in information or library studies to undertake a specific dissertation project.

Grants are offered according to a schedule, with a call for applications for awards, a submission deadline and a decision phase. The Trust may make one or two calls a year. Information on current calls and deadlines, and application forms, may be found on the Calls page. Award winners are decided by the Trustees.
