Session 1- Why consider RFID?

What is RFID and what are the benefits of considering it for your library?  What does the technology have to offer and is it cost-effective?  Following a Keynote Presentation to set the scene and the launch of RFID Implementation - a Checklist, which will be provided to all delegates at the end of the conference, a major supplier and an innovative customer deliver their verdicts.

Session 2 - RFID in action

What is the experience of those who have installed RFID in public and academic libraries?  Delegates can compare the experiences of those involved in the ground-breaking installation at the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library with the recent application at Middlesex University.  Then a selected panel of experts will debate two directly contrasting implementation strategies - a key issue for any library considering RFID.

A panel of experts devate how best to get RFID into action and delivering results, and discuss their differing views with delegates via an open forum.

Session 3 - Operational and strategic issues

How do current standards impact on interoperability?  What implications do RFID installations have for health and safety privacy?  The session ends with a panel session on the different approaches to RFID technology with the supplier and the library perspectives represented.

Two suppliers, Darren Ratcliffe of Intellident and Gregor Hotz of D-Tech will outline their approaches to structuring information on RFID tags followed by comments from two knowledgeable users from the library community, Mike Berrington of Nottingham Trent University and Alan Hopkinson of Middlesex University. The discussion will be opened up to consider issues of standards and interoperability.
