Martin Palmer

Biography 

Martin Palmer is Strategic Manager: Transformation & Resources for Essex County Council's Libraries, where he has worked in various roles since the mid-1970s. Involved in introducing RFID to Essex libraries, he is currently leading its rollout to 31 more sites. Martin is also a director of BIC (Book Industry Communication), and chair of the joint BIC/CILIP RFID in Libraries Group.

Abstract:

Having installed RFID at 4 libraries between 2003 and 2005, Essex County Council then developed a business plan to extend the benefits of the technology to a further 31 libraries by March 2007. RFID is used as part of a package - also including staff development, stock presentation and re-branding - to help transform service delivery at those sites.
