Jo Aitkens

Biography

Jo Aitkins is Head of Public Services at the University of Leicester.  She is responsible for Lending, Enquiry and Distance Learning Services and her remit also includes Staff Training and Quality.  She began her career in public libraries in the North East of England and first became familiar with self-service at the University of Sunderland, who were one of the early adopters.

Abstract: Starting out: what needs to be considered?

The University of Leicester is undertaking a major re-development of the Main Library which will introduce self service for the first time on its completion in the summer of 2007.

In this session Jo will present points to consider when planning for RFID, and undergoing a tender exercise.  She will also share her experiences of their progress to date, and what is planned for next year.
