Biog:
Carole
Pickaver is the Head of Library Services at the University of Kent
. Carole during her career has been involved in implementing new
technologies initially in public libraries and since the late 1980's
in academic libraries. Key areas of challenge have involved the
interoperability of different systems in order that the end user
receives a seemless service delivery where possible, even though
there can be a lot of manipulation of data and processes going on
behind the scenes! and the steep learning curve staff often have
go through to enable them to effectively use the technology.
Abstract:
In March 2008 the an outline proposal to implement a new course
text collection, managed by RFID technology, was raised at the Templeman
Library, University of Kent . A 10 week project period was approved
to implement the proposal and be service ready – this presentation
is about what happened next and the issues that arose during implementation.
