Fiona O'Brien

Biography - Fiona O'Brien is the Development Manager at the London Libraries Development Agency.  Prior to this she worked for a number of years within BBC Factual and Learning as Libraries and Literature Project Manager and in the Digital Curriculum pilot project team as metadata specialist.  Before joining the BBC she worked for five years as a library manager in a large further education college in London, spent two years as a subject librarian for Launguages and Linguistics at the University of Hertfordshire and six years as a cataloguer for the National Film and Television Archive.  Her first job was as a cataloguer at the British Library.

Currently Fiona is responsible for the London Libraries website www.londonlibraries.org.uk which includes the What's in London's Libraries service, a virtual union catalogue and gateway to the 395 public, 50 + HE and numerous specialist libraries in the capital.

Abstract - After what will have been a full and technology-filled day, Fiona O'Brien will take the opportunity to sit back with you and muse on the human side of the business of running a library service and how RFID may help librarians and their customers get more out of their library.

She will consider what might be learnt from other services and commercial enterprises in terms of delivering exceptional customer care and how RFID fits in with that – it ain't what you do it's the way that you do it….
