William Marsterson
Biography
- William Marsterson is Pro Vice-Chancellor
and Head of Learning Resources at Middlesex University. He
joined Middlesex Polytechnic as Head of Library Services in 1987,
having worked previously at Huddersfield Polytechnic and Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Polytechnic. At both those institutions he developed interests
in library planning and the projects involved in using new space,
and also in the uses of IT in providing library and information
services. Prior to that he worked as a Research Assistant
at Sheffield University on the Local Library Co-operation Project.
Abstract
- The Academic Experience - moving ahead with RFID
This paper
will explore the distinctive features of managing academic libraries,
and the ways in which RFID can enhance library services. The
experience of installing the Bibliotheca RFID product in conjunction
with the Horizon library system will be used to illustrate the opportunities
and challenges, from the point of view of user service, as well
as that of the staff responsible for technical development.
