What
is RFID?
RFID (Radio
Frequency Identification) is claimed to provide cost-effective solutions
to many of the key issues facing most libraries:
- annual stock taking
- rapid checking that books are shelved in the
correct area
- searching for specific items using a scanner
- self check-out of items
- self-return of items
- security
- library membership cards
This one-day
conference provides a unique opportunity for librarians to review
the latest technology. Delegates will see for themselves the
benefits of installing RFID in libraries, listen to presentations
by expert speakers, join in Open Forum debates, and discuss with
colleagues its advantages and pitfalls.
The conference
will consider technical issues such as interoperability, metadata
and standards, as well as looking at management issues such as staffing,
procurement, privacy, and tagging existing collections. Leading
suppliers are sponsoring the conference and will provide an insight
into their latest offerings.
