The benefits of CILIP membership for your staff

Reaching their potential and demonstrating their skills

Its Royal Charter enables CILIP to award qualifications that are highly regarded and internationally recognised. Becoming a Chartered Member of CILIP demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional development.

A Revalidation Scheme is available to Chartered members and Fellows to demonstrate their knowledge and to ensure skills remain current.

Continuing professional development underpins the Framework of Qualifications and all CILIP members have a commitment to keeping up to date.

CILIP provides many learning opportunities, including over 150 workshops a year run by its Training and Development business – CILIP members receive a 40% discount on the cost of these courses.

There are also many training and networking events organised by the CILIP Branches and Special Interest Groups.

Staying one step ahead

CILIP members receive a monthly magazine, Library and Information Update, which is packed with professional articles and features. They also receive Library and Information Gazette every fortnight, which is full of industry news, views, comment and all the latest jobs

Information and Advice

The Information and Advice Team answers individual member queries and can give guidance on professional and personal development issues.

Members can sign up for free email bulletins including the Weekly Information World and Monthly International Focus. These are prepared by the Information Team and delivered directly to members’ desktops.

An RSS feed from the CILIP website enables members to keep abreast of developments at CILIP and the library and information world. The website allows members access to online professional databases such as Library and Information Science Abstracts.

Facet Publishing, CILIP’s own publishing house, offers members a 20% discount on practical and professional books.

Meeting and learning from like-minded people

CILIP has a strong special interest and regional infrastructure that encourages individuals to become involved in professional activities.

Members can share examples of good practice and play an active part in developing the profession. This involvement leads to increased personal motivation and feeds directly into performance at work.

All members are entitled to free membership of their local CILIP Branch and two Special Interest Groups.
