Job Description
In this sector the libraries or information units vary in size from solo workers to small teams. Duties tend to be varied and hands-on, they may include the following:
- Answering enquiries from members, researchers and staff.
- Conducting in depth research done at other organisations to avoid unnecessary duplication using print resources, computer databases and the Internet.
- Verifying facts for organisations reports and publications.
- Providing current awareness services.
- Choosing, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying and exploiting a range of books, journals and other documentation.
- Setting up and managing databases to organise information.
- Evaluating and comparing information sources and software prior to purchase.
- Running inductions for other staff members.
