What happens if either the employer or the trainee realizes early on that this is an unsuitable placement?
The contract can be terminated in negotiation with PATH and in accordance to the notice period outlined in the contract.
What happens if the trainee decides to abandon their Encompass placement and accept a job offer instead?
If a trainee is offered a job during the traineeship they should give the required amount of notice before they leave.
What happens if the employer's training budget is cut during the three year Encompass training period?
Trainee posts should be ringfenced for the entire period of the traineeship.
Can a trainee be dismissed?
A trainee can be dismissed for gross misconduct. However all negotiations must go through PATH as the contract holder.
What period of notice are trainees or employers required to give if either wishes to end the placement?
During the probationary period, one week's notice is required either side; once probation has been completed this becomes four weeks' notice.
What happens if the trainee fails during some stage in their academic studies, or drops out of the course?
If the student drops out then the traineeship comes to an end. If the student fails a module, the university will probably allow the student to retake that module so PATH will negotiate with the trainee/placement provider over the best way forward.
Does the trainee have to return any money to PATH if they leave the scheme early?
The trainee may be required to return course fees if they leave within the first semester of their course.
What compensation does the employer receive if a trainee leaves the scheme early?
There is no compensation for employers. PATH will reimburse unexpended trainee allowances.
How can an employer avoid resentment among other staff at the special treatment offered to Encompass trainees?
All staff in the organization need to know about the traineeship and how it works. PATH provides excellent advice on preparing your staff. The client relationship manager will discuss issues like this on their visits.
