What the trainees do during their placement

What sort of guidance does the employer get on suitable activities for an Encompass trainee?

PATH provides a work experience guide based on CILIP’s Body of Professional Knowledge and Chartership requirements.

What proportion of the trainee's work should consist of special projects, as opposed to the more routine work that any employee would expect to do?

This can be negotiated with the trainee and in collaboration with PATH to ensure that the trainee receives a well rounded developmental programme.
Can the trainee's work programme be adapted to suit the employer’s specific needs?

Yes. The work experience guide is only a guide and not prescriptive. The exact programme is negotiated with PATH.

Do the illustrative costings assume that the trainee is working for the employer for only four days out of five?

No. The illustrative costings are based on the costs of a full-time post.

What checks does PATH make on the trainee's progress with the employer?

A Client Relationship Manager is assigned to each trainee and visits the trainee on a regular basis.

What support does the trainee's supervisor get?

The Client Relationship Manager has the role of supporting both the trainee and the supervisor to ensure the smooth running of the traineeship.

Does the trainee receive any special training in career development skills during their placement?

PATH runs training courses on career development skills throughout the year.

Does the trainee have to start paying back any of the student loan they received for their first degree during their Encompass traineeship?

The trainee needs to refer any questions regarding student loans to the Student Loans Company.

Is it possible for Encompass trainees to exchange employers or placements, either temporarily or permanently, with agreement?

Trainees can be encouraged to have short placements if it enhances their traineeship; however this would not be a permanent arrangement.
