Recruiting the trainees

How does PATH set about finding potential Encompass trainees?

PATH is required to promote the opportunities as widely as reasonably possible, and therefore would advertise in the local or regional ethnic minority press to attract suitable candidates.

Where does PATH advertise for potential trainees?

The advertisement of the posts may differ with each traineeship, but PATH will typically advertise in suitable press, trade magazines, and on our websites and associated websites.

Does PATH vary its recruitment advertising to suit different library and information sectors?

PATH would use the most suitable method for the client’s needs. See above.

How does PATH vary its advertising to reach the specific ethnic groups it wishes to attract?

PATH would use a variety of local / regional media, has good links with universities, can access faith groups via email, and ex and current trainees act as a good source of referral.

Do the Encompass trainees have to be library graduates?

No. We are looking for graduates from any discipline who wish to follow a Masters course in library and information studies whilst learning on the job too.

How does PATH set about ensuring that the trainees it recruits will be of suitable quality to satisfy employers’ needs?

The recruitment process includes an interview, a numerical and literacy test. A suitable candidate will only be chosen if he/she meets the person specification, and then the interview panel will select the most suitable candidate.

How far does PATH take into account individual employers' requirements for the kind of trainee they require?

PATH ensures that the employer is involved throughout the recruitment process and will design the process to take the employer’s requirements into consideration throughout the process.

How does PATH accommodate employers' differing recruitment procedures?

PATH consults with the employer throughout the process to ensure that they are satisfied

If a post that is suitable for conversion to an Encompass traineeship becomes vacant, does the employer have to wait for the next annual Encompass trainee recruitment round before they can fill it?

This will have to be dealt with on an individual basis, so please ask.

After the first pilot year, will subsequent Encompass trainees be recruited in annual cohorts, or will it be a rolling programme, with new trainees coming onto the scheme at any time?

There will be advertised annual rounds of recruitment.
