What does the trainee do on their weekly study day in year three of the traineeship?
If there is no course attendance on their study day, the trainee would be expected to attend work as normal; however CILIP would encourage employers to offer some study days to enable trainees to prepare their portfolios for Chartership.
Should the trainee expect to be doing professional work by year three of the traineeship?
Certainly – even earlier. Depending on the context many trainees will be doing professional work by the end of the first year.
What’s to stop a trainee leaving the scheme after two years once they've got their Masters?
Nothing. But we hope that the experience and networking trainees have undertaken will encourage them to complete the three years.
Is it possible for a trainee to do their third year (and work towards their MCLIP) with a different employer from the one they were with in years one and two?
Yes – the scheme is flexible. But they will still need to be a trainee if they wish to get the allowance rather than a salary.
What support does the trainee get in searching for a job at the end of the placement?
The Client Relationship Manager will work with the trainee to identify their next steps well in advance of the end of the placement. PATH also provides career management and interview skills training, which the trainee can take advantage of. We would also expect the employer to allow trainees reasonable time off to attend interviews.
May Encompass trainees apply for internally advertised jobs, on the same terms as employees can?
We would encourage employers to allow trainees to apply for jobs on the same terms.
