Building highly effective teams

Organisations and the teams within them often evolve in a fairly ad hoc manner and suffer from functional and behavioural barriers to making the most of the expertise, experience and insights of their members.

The team development and team effectiveness techniques covered in this course will provide a tool-kit to address functional and behavioural barriers to achieving highly effective teams.

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • Understood the different stages of team development and the roles of team leaders and team members in achieving high-performance teams
  • Familiarised themselves with the prerequisites for team effectiveness and some of the best practices for addressing them
  • Learnt how to diagnose the status of a team and agree priorities for increasing its effectiveness
  • Become aware of some of the tools available for gaining a better understanding of behavioural differences between team members and the strengths that each can bring to a team
  • Developed individual action plans for how they will apply what they have learnt

This course will be of benefit to Library and Information Professionals working in academic, public and private sector organisations.  It will be particularly useful to those with responsibilities for line or project management teams within the organisation.
Please note that no prior knowledge of the team development and team effectiveness materials covered is assumed and all jargon will be explained in simple terms.
