David is the Library & Information Services Manager at the Cyprus International Institute of Management. He is responsible for the strategic and operational direction of the service and has implemented a new E-Library strategy. With his accredited qualification and being a Chartered Member of CILIP he has used his experience and knowledge to support overseas projects and develop an international career.

In 1995/96, I spent my pre-library school year at St. Deiniol’s Library, the UK’s only residential library. I then studied at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

After the course, I worked for a consultancy in Cardiff, creating a computerised catalogue, and was appointed Assistant Librarian (Central Services) at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, in 1998.

After two years I moved to Coleg Glan Hafren, Cardiff’s further education (FE) college, where I was in charge of the Learning Centres’ user education programme.

In 2002 I became a Chartered Member of CILIP and was appointed Deputy Manager of College Library Services at Bradford College, a very large FE college with over 50 library staff. Whilst there, I was involved in an EU project to modernise the library service at the Kyrgyz Technical University. This involved three visits to Kyrgyzstan, and opened my eyes to the possibilities of working overseas.

In 2005 I accepted the post of Library & Information Services Manager at the Cyprus International Institute of Management, Cyprus’ leading provider of management education.

I have really enjoyed the different challenges of the last 10 years. There are a huge range of opportunities for library and information professionals: I never thought I’d end up running a library service in the Eastern Mediterranean!
