In 2004 Kate returned to the academic sector to focus on user education as Academic Services Librarian for the Humanities at the University of Greenwich. In August 2007 Kate moved into the further education sector and became Learning Resources Manager for Grantham College, managing a library and an e-learning centre as well as promoting and supporting the development of e-learning in the College. She has gained varied experience in teaching and training, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has gained her Certificate of Professional Development in eLearning, Teaching & Training (CeLTT) at the University of Greenwich.

Following a one year graduate traineeship at Manchester Metropolitan University, I gained an MSc Information Management at the University of Sheffield in 2000.
My first professional post was as researcher in an investment bank, where I gained wide-ranging professional experience. Working in an international company provided interesting opportunities to liaise with research colleagues overseas to contribute local knowledge towards a global research service. A secondment to subscriptions management provided opportunities to liaise with external vendors and overseas colleagues to administrate global contracts.
After a chance meeting with one of the editorial team at the inaugural LILAC (Librarians’ Information Literacy Annual Conference), I contributed towards a chapter in a forthcoming book Subject Librarianship: Engaging with the Learning and Teaching Process published by Ashgate. Although writing for publication seemed daunting at first, I found the process very interesting and rewarding.
I gained chartered membership of CILIP in 2005 and have reflected on continuing professional development in a recent article in Impact: journal of the Career Development Group.
