The first substantial survey of CILIP members' experience of work was conducted during 2004 and reported on in Spring 2005. This followed a 'toe-dip' survey conducted during 2002 to find out whether people were willing to provide information which will build a picture of 21st century working librarians.
Although data on salaries is being gathered, and will continue to inform the development of salary guidelines and work with employers, there are also questions around professional life and practice.
CILIP gathered the data via a web-based survey and then works closely with LISU who provide data analysis and interpretation. The final report is prepared by LISU.
The 2006 survey (published Spring 2007) will be reviewed in detail and fed into the workings of CILIP. Feedback and suggestions from members will be gratefully received.
It is hoped to build on these surveys and to expand their coverage in future years.
