Searching the LIS collection at the BL
Some of the LIS collection is Open Access and Adrian Schindler, Reference Specialist at the British Library, has offered the following guidance on searching the Library’s Integrated Catalogue for this material:

Go to http://catalogue.bl.uk and click the “search” link (you can also log in as a reader pass holder if you have obtained a reader pass).

Click “browse” (a link in the middle menu above the search box) and set the search parameter (directly beneath the search box) to “shelfmark”. Then type HUR 020, or whatever Dewey number within the range HUR 020-028 you wish to start from (the prefix “HUR” means “Humanities Upper Reading Room” and is the prefix applied to most of the shelfmarks in Humanities 2, including most of the LIS collection).

Click “go”. A list like that below will appear and you will be able to click the links which are roughly in ascending Dewey order and effectively browse what is on the shelves, paging further through as you go:

Browse List: Shelfmark

No. of Recs Entry
34 HUR 020
3 HUR 020.1
2 HUR 020.148
6 HUR 020.16
18 HUR 020.23
7 HUR 020.285
28 HUR 020.3
3 HUR 020.5
2 HUR 020.621
5 HUR 020.622

Please note that this is only a selection of the total LIS intake. If you have other specific items you wish to search for, it is advisable to use the default “any word” search parameter and combine the surname with a word or two from the title. Other search options are also available in the drop down list, or go to the “advance search” link.
