CILIP ‘big conversation’ project board announced

Members of the big conversation project board have been selected

The project board’s remit is to manage and facilitate the consultation process, integral to the big conversation. A wide range of stakeholders will be consulted included CILIP members, the wider library and information community, and other interested stakeholders.

The big conversation was announced at the CILIP AGM in October 2009. It will gather views from a range of stakeholders, including CILIP members, about what CILIP should look like in 5 and 10 years time. Key questions the big conversation will address include what CILIP’s business model could be, what it should offer to members, to the library and information profession, and society.

Members of the project board have been selected based on their experience with managing large scale projects, particularly projects involving wide consultation.

Members of the project board:

  • Carol Brooks, Operations Manager (South) for Derbyshire County Council
  • David Byrne, Head of Knowledge Management at BT Legal
  • Biddy Fisher, Chair of the Project Board and CILIP President
  • Katie Fraser, Assistant Librarian (Business) at Kimberlin Library, De Montfort University
  • Alan Fricker, Knowledge and Library Service Manager at an NHS Trust
  • Liz Jolly, Director of Library and Information Services at Teesside University
  • Stephanie Kenna, Project management experience at the British Library
  • Nigel Macartney, CILIP Council representative and Leader of Council
  • Liz MacLachlan, Consultant in information, records and change management

Early tasks for the project board include:

  • Scoping the programme of work
  • Selecting and supporting a consultant who will carry out the work
  • Agreeing a sound methodology to get views from a range of stakeholders
  • Guiding and overseeing the progress
  • Reporting to CILIP Council

Around four face-to-face meetings of the project board will take place between February and June 2010, with work between meetings taking place electronically.

Consultation with stakeholders will take place through a variety of methods, including social media.
