Response to BERR Review of Consumer Law, July 2008


LACA's response highlights the negative impact of contracts and licences for access to, and use of, digital information and knowledge goods on the value of copyright exceptions and limitations and the need for the law to protect the interests of the consumer in the digital environment.

Response to UK-IPO consultation on Proposed Changes to Copyright Exceptions


We broadly support proposals to extend copyright exceptions for preservation, education, and fair dealing for non-commercial research or private study but extensions to the latter must be mirrored in the library and archive copying exceptions. We also call for legislation to confirm application of the exceptions to the digital environment and to prevent them from being overridden by contracts. As convener of LACA and its majority stakeholder, CILIP is joined with LACA in its Response.

LACA Statement on Orphan Works, December 2007


LACA contributes its position statement to the international debate on orphan works. It advocates a range of approaches to provide a mixed economy solution for dealing with orphan works and to afford safe harbour status to not-for-profit institutions operating for the public good.
