CILIP has agreed a definition of Information Literacy for use by CILIP Members.
The Community Services Group Information Literacy Group (CSG ILG) is a Special Interest Group of CILIP.
Further to a number of activities and discussions during 2002-2003 a group, the Information Literacy Executive, was established, chaired by Sheila Corrall, CILIP President 2002-2003 to agree a definition of Information Literacy for use by CILIP Members.
This group, which first met in June 2003 to work on the development of a definition, explored the work of CILIP's advisory groups on National Information Policy and the Knowledge Economy as well as that of SCONUL's Task Force on information skills "Seven Pillars of Wisdom".
A small working group was identified to finalise a draft definition which has been circulated and agreed by the main group. This was approved at CILIP Council on 14 December 2004 as CILIP’s definition on Information Literacy. The definition is supported by an introduction and background information with links to information on skills and competencies.
