The work of the Learning Task & Finish Group
The development of policy regarding learning has been undertaken by the Learning Task & Finish Group. This Group reports to the Policy Forum. It was originally set up by the Policy Development Committee in 2006.
The Group has:
• Developed a general statement on Libraries and Learning approved by Council on 29 April 2008. (UK)
Read the libraries and learning statement
• Responded to the DIUS (Department of Innovation, Universities & Skills) consultation on Informal Learning.(England)

• Engaged with the work of the RSA Prison Learning Network established by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (RSA). (UK)

Future work
Lifelong learning
It is proposed to contribute to the Inquiry into the Future of Lifelong Learning (possibly through a joint Executive Briefing) set up by NIACE (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education). (UK)

Children's Plan
The Youth & Schools Joint Committee have been asked to consider the Children's Plan issued by DCSF (Department of Children, Schools and Families). Proposals on this were put to the Policy Forum at its meeting on 4 September 2008. (England)
Evidence base
The creation of an evidence base to demonstrate the contribution of libraries to learning is recognised as an important area of work. This will have to be approached as part of the general need to establish an evidence base for the profession. (UK)
