CILIP accredits undergraduate and postgraduate library and information courses in England, Wales and Scotland. Successful completion of an accredited course will help you get professional posts in the UK and elsewhere in the world. It will also enable you to register to Charter with CILIP.
The primary purpose of accreditation is to confirm the relevance of the course to current and developing practice in librarianship and information science, including in very specialist sectors, and thus improve your employability. Courses are assessed using the Accreditation Instrument and the CILIP Body of Professional Knowledge.

Universities welcome enquiries from prospective students. Contact the appropriate admissions departments for full entry requirements, and for detailed information on the content and the mode of delivery. The admissions department will also be able to tell you about any waiting lists for places.
Most courses are offered as full-time or part-time by day release. The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and Northumbria University in Newcastle offer distance learning options.
Accreditation FAQs
Q: The accreditation 'due by' date has passed: should I enrol on this course?
A: it is quite normal for there to be a short delay between the date due for review and the completion of the next review. As long as re-accreditation is successful all the students who have started a course since the expiry date will have accredited status - as long as they obtain the degree!
Q: What happens if I start a course and it closes before I finish?
A: Even if a course closes to new entrants you will be covered by the accreditation that was in place when you enrolled
