On 1 January 2009 a single category Certification (ACLIP) scheme will be introduced. Applications will be accepted from Affiliated members who have been working in library and information work for two years (full-time equivalent) or longer.

How will these changes affect me?

The criteria will be:

Candidates must demonstrate:

1) an ability to evaluate personal performance and service performance
2) an understanding of the ways in which their personal, technical and professional skills have developed through training and development activities and/or through practice
3) an appreciation of the role of library and information services in the wider community

These criteria bring together those for the current Category 1 and Category 2.

The mandatory documents for the single category scheme will be the same as at present:

The current Category 1 and Category 2 will be phased out as follows:

• no applications (i.e. portfolios) under Category 1 will be accepted after 31 December 2008
• no applications under Category 2 will be accepted after 31 July 2009
• applications under the single category will be accepted from 1 January 2009
• from 1 August 2009 only applications under the single category will be accepted
• normally, no new registrations under Category 1 will be accepted after 31 October 2008
• normally, no new registrations under Category 2 will be accepted after 31 December 2008
