Graduate level qualifications from the USA, Canada, Australia and the EU member states are accepted in the UK. Other qualifications will have to be individually checked by CILIP.
CILIP has a reciprocal agreement with the American Library Association and the Australian Library and Information Association which means academic qualifications accredited by those bodies are accepted in the UK. This allows graduates holding American, Canadian and Australian Bachelors and Masters degrees in library and information studies to apply for posts asking for qualified librarians and information professionals in the UK and also to register with CILIP to Charter (Pathway 2).
Library and Information qualifications from EU member states are also accepted in the UK for employment purposes and also to register with CILIP to Charter (Pathway 2), provided they have been assessed as being at UK degree level or equivalent.
Other qualifications will have to be individually checked and inquirers should contact us at the Qualifications section at CILIP.
All inquirers whose overseas qualifications are accepted by CILIP are eligible to register to Charter with CILIP under Pathway 2.
