Annual report
Branch and Mobile Libraries Group
Branch Report for CILIP Annual Review
April 2004 to March 2005
Activities
The annual Mobilemeet in May attracted good numbers to its urban setting in Birmingham. The programme covered examples of local Mobile services with an emphasis on learning. Uniquely the event included a live international video link up with a conference being held simultaneously in Montenegro. Sue Cook, Ian Stringer and librarians from Birmingham gave presentations to the delegates, who hailed from six different countries in Eastern Europe.
The Scottish Mobilemeet broke new ground, being held at Rugby Park, the home of Kilmarnock FC. The theme was
“Routes to Inclusion”,
looking at assistive technologies and outreach activities.
Ian Stringer worked hard on the IFLA Mobiles Section, running a workshop in Ireland and speaking at an impressively well organised Mobiles Conference in Hungary.
Our annual Weekend School, organised by Mark Bryant, moved to Edinburgh where 40 delegates were joined by a number of day visitors. The theme was “Family Learning in Today's Libraries : Practical Solutions, Bright Ideas”. The range and quality of papers presented was very impressive, and the new venue made for an excellent social atmosphere.
