What We Do
The Career Development Group gets involved in a wide range of activities, including Chartership, International Work, training, and the publication of our journal, Impact.
The Career Development Group is involved in a wide variety of activities. Some key areas include:
Certification, Chartership and Revalidation
The group offers support for those working towards chartered membership of cilip. A national network of CSOs (Candidate Support Officers) offer support to those working towards chartership.
Articles on chartering regularly also appear in the group's quarterly journal, Impact. We will be making older articles available in the near future.
Short courses on chartership are also held in conjunction with CILIP at a range of locations throughout the country.
Impact
This is the quarterly journal of the Career Development Group. Selected articles from the current issue can be accessed here. The majority of articles from previous issues are available here, from 2000 to the present. Content is continually being added. If you would like to be notified when new content is added, please click here for details of the Impact mailing list.
Divisional groups
This is one of the unique features of the Career Development Group. Local divisions run courses for their members, with input from local information professionals. New members are always welcome to help get involved, either in particular roles (such as Treasurer, Secretary, Publications Officer, depending on the branch), or as a general committee member. Many National Officers began as local officers.
Training
The Career Development Group run a wide range of affordable courses in your local area. Previous courses have included Alternative Display, Careers Day for Library and Information Assistants, Marketing courses, and Management courses.
Special student group
The Career Development Group is the only group of CILIP which caters specifically for the needs of students. Each division would welcome a Student Representative to their committee. Equally important is the social side of the Group, and many Divisions hold informal social events as well as more formal courses.
