National Council Constitution
National Council is the ruling body of the Career Development Group. It is made up of:
• President (Chair)
• Past President
• Vice President
• 11 Honorary Officers
• 1 voting representative from each of the Divisions*
• 4 voting representatives from the Student Committee**
• Associate Officers***
• Observers****
* Each Division selects its own representative to the Career Development Group Council whose role is:
• to represent their members' views to Council, be it in formulation of Group policy, in discussion of matters referred to Council, or in initiating debate on particular matters of concern
• to report fully in writing to their Divisional committee on discussion at Council and to ensure that any work referred to Divisions is completed on time
• to participate on an individual level at Council meetings
** Student Committee Representatives include:
• Chair
• Secretary
• 2 others
*** Some Honorary Officers' job descriptions allow them to appoint an Associate Officer to assist them in their work. Associate Officers are not members of Council but attend meetings of Council as required
**** Other observers may be invited by Council to attend its meetings eg
• CILIP’s Liaison Officer
• Personnel Training and Education Group (PTEG) Representative

Meetings
• National Council normally meets twice a year at CILIP Headquarters in London. The meetings are usually held in May and November and normally last two days
• Council meetings are supplemented by meetings of the Honorary Officers as required, to carry on the business of the Group

• 1 student representative from each Department of Library & Information Studies
