3. Circle Events, 2006/2007
The 2006 AGM and Summer Event was held on 27 June 2006 at St Edmund Hall, Oxford.
The AGM was followed by a very interesting tour of St Edmund Hall library in the 12th Century church of St Peter-in-the-East led by Professor Nigel Palmer. This was followed by a talk and tour of The Library, Merton College courtesy of Julia Walworth.
Our thanks go to Sue Palmer for organising this event.
Our annual joint CoFHE Mid-West and UC&R BBO Autumn Event this year was postponed until the early part of the spring term. Our event, Ain’t Misbehavin’ held at Black Horse House on the University of Reading Campus on 1st February proved to be an extremely popular event. As the title implies this event covered the thorny topic of managing user behaviour.
We were very pleased to welcome Ged Lombard a chartered psychologist and Director of The Independent Psychological Service as our keynote speaker. This was followed by a very lively and active session run by Jude Carroll, Deputy Director, ASKe at Oxford Brookes. Dean McIlwraith talked about the University of Warwick's innovative 'Learning Grid'. This was followed by Matthew Lawson, from Kings College London with a very informative session. 4. Mid-West Committee
The Committee met twice a term in Reading, Oxford and Newbury to organise Circle events. At our first meeting of the new year it was decided that due to the small number of committee members we would be unable to organise three events each alternate year. To this end it was decided to combine the AGM into an event, rather than a visit, and organise two events.
Sadly due to work commitments Sue Palmer had to resign from the committee. Hazel Rothera, who has the vital role of secretary, is currently on maternity leave and we are hoping to welcome her back soon.
Finally, I would like to record my thanks to the CoFHE Mid-West Committee for their support and enthusiasm during my second year as Chair in particular Martin Strugnell and Alison Sutton.
