The CoFHE North-East Circle is a branch of CILIP's Colleges of Further & Higher Education Group. There are currently 16 such Circles throughout the UK.
The aim of the North-East Circle reflects that of the parent Group in that it acts as a forum by which 'those concerned with library and information provision in Colleges throughout the region can discuss areas of professional concern, disseminate literature relating to these areas, actively promote recommendations for the development of services offered and operate as a unit both within national library organisations and in relation to other relevant bodies.'
CoFHE North-East meets about 3 times per year. Meetings, which take place throughout the region, are well attended with representation from 14 colleges and 1 university. Joint meetings with the regional UC&R have also become a regular feature. Recent issues discussed have included the impact of the Dearing Report, the role of librarians as teachers, flexible learning and The Learning Age Green Paper.
