Making the most of IT: interacting with users
A practical workshop held at UCL in London on Tuesday 10th July 2007.
The aim of the day was to provide an opportunity to see demonstrations and presentations about using Library 2.0 and other IT technology with plenty of opportunity for hands-on experimenting. The focus was on how we might be able to use technology to interact with our users.
Peter Godwin from University of Bedfordshire looked at using social networks such as Myspace, Ning and Facebook to engage with our users. His recommendation was to keep the closest eye on Facebook as the best way into interacting with users.
Jane Secker's presentation took blogs, RSS and social bookmarking as her focus and she provided opportunities in bite-sized slots of time to try all of these out and with ideas of how they might be useful to our users.

Chris Barker, Cambridge took us through using Surveymonkey, giving an opinion on the usefulness of the free (although limited) survey compared to the purchased survey tool.
Libby Tilley, Cambridge, looked at how it is possible to make use of the interactive elements of Powerpoint to create a Virtual Tour with interactive instruction for loading on VLEs, sending to distance learners etc. Time was available for delegates to try out the interactive features of Powerpoint and to think about ways of making use of it.
