Director General of National Libraries of Sri Lanka accepts cheque for 1 Million rupees raised by GLIG for Hikkaduwa Library.
Introduction to twinning project with Hikkaduwa Library
Early in 2005 the Government Libraries and Information Group set up a Working Party (GLIG-WP) to explore the possibility of twinning with a Tsunami-affected library in Sri Lanka. Using a variety of information sources and details provided by the secretary of the Twinning and Adoption task force the GLIG-WP identified several libraries for the group's project secretary, Anoja Fernando, to visit and report on. Following Anoja's visit and after consultation with the Director General of National Libraries of Sri Lanka the Working Party selected Hikkaduwa Public Library as the most suitable library for twinning.
Aims of the project
We aim to provide support for the library community in Hikkaduwa and to raise funds for library renovations, facilities and replacement stock. We welcome support from fundraisers and volunteers.

November, 2007 in support of Hikkaduwa Library - thank you for all your support.
GLIG Secretary, David Taylor has taken on a new challenge for 2008 to swim the return distance from Leeds to Hikkaduwa and to lose 2st by June 11 the date of the GLIG AGM.
